If you think about it, everything was against Tina Turner making a comeback. She was in her 40’s in the eighties. She had a string of unsuccessful attempts at building a strong solo career after leaving Ike Turner, and one of the first songs she was pitched, nobody wanted, including herself. It was not exactly a recipe for success.

According to many who worked with her in the studio during the Private Dancer album, however, it was Tina’s belief in making things happen and making the material as good as she could, that really put Private Dancer over the top.

Here is the story of the song, “What’s Love Got To Do With It,” which went to number one this week in rock, September 1st, 1985, on my latest podcast on Spotify. Listen above for the abbreviated version, or the Spotify app to hear full songs. Just look up “The Show With Derek Moore.”
